On Monday (June 10) New York University’s McSilver Institute honored Meek Mill for his continuous work with the REFORM Alliance to better and change the community and criminal justice system.
The Philly native stated during his acceptance speech in a video posted to social media by his publicist that, “Seeing young men like myself in the criminal system, would you say there’s no justice in the system? I’ve never seen this side of justice,” he continued to admit that he felt inspired to give back after the support he received from his Philadelphia community while in prison, “I wanted to do something about it when I got the support from my people and people standing for me at this last situation.”
Meek Mill continues to work on his music and spread the awareness of the prison cycle and the injustice in the criminal system. He recently released a powerful and educating music video for “Oodles O’Noodles Babies” that truly highlights the effect that the prison cycle has on families of color living in poverty and how it tears them apart.
