Seven years after her death, the queen of pop has released new music! The late singer’s 1991 recording (never released) of “Higher Love” is out and has a millennial twist to it thanks to DJ Kygo, who remixed the song giving it a dance vibe. “Higher Love” was written by Steve Winwood and became a hit back in 1986.
Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law and sole executor of her estate expressed in a statement, “We knew Kygo would be the right producer to enhance Whitney’s powerful vocal performance on ‘Higher Love’, to the standards and expectations that Whitney’s fans have recognized for over three decades.”
Clive Davis, who discovered Houston shared on social media that the song was intended for her third studio album, ‘I’m Your Baby Tonight’ and saved as a Japan-only bonus track song. Davis explained, “When [producer] Narada Michael Walden sent me ‘Higher Love’ with the Whitney vocal, we didn’t want her being a cover artist at the time.”
DJ Kygo said in a statement, “I was honored when the Whitney Houston estate reached out and presented me with the opportunity to work with one of the greatest female vocalists of all time. I reworked the song from scratch and am really happy with how it turned out!
